Within hollow rock-realms known as Shards, floating in the confines of the magical Deadspell Storm, a civilization consisting of humans and daevi struggles to rediscover the pieces of their shattered world. This civilization is known as the Enclave of the Five Sacrifices. Although most of the Shards are known to the Enclave, myths and legends tell of many strange and wonderful Shards but these are almost certainly derived from the stories of those that struggled to survive the aftermath of the destruction of the Ancestor World.
The Enclave of the Five Sacrifices is an alliance consisting of five High Houses. The political balance between these houses is relatively stable although all of them vie for power on a regular basis. The citizens of the Enclave believe in cooperation and sharing, as long as it furthers the ideals of their own allegiances. This belief has become the basis on which they form a united front against external threats. Once a threat has been controlled or mollified by the Enclave, the political surge between the High Houses intensifies and the steady balance of allegiance sways back and forth. While terms of good and evil mean little to the High Lords and High Ladies, who your allies are at a given moment can mean the difference between being a ruling House or one on the verge of collapse.
